During the summer, Paul Allen's Flying Heritage Museum sponsors free fly in days. His museum is devoted to the restoration of vintage WWII aircraft and during fly in days, several of the planes are taken out and flown in the area around Paine Field in Everett. When I heard the distinct sound of some old planes, I just jumped in the car and drove over as I only live about 5-10 minutes away. Unsure of where to park, I just pulled into the parking lot for the Hilton Garden Inn which overlooks the runway. While I wasn't as close as I could have been had I driven a bit further, I still had a pretty good view.
Today was billed as "Ground Attack Day" and two of the featured planes included a Republic P-47D Thunderbolt and a Douglas Skyraider. Towards the end of the show I looked off to the north end of the runway and saw a new Boeing plane coming by on a test flight.
