Today I decided to go through the responses I received on an end of the year survey given to my students. Now, admittedly, many of the kids quickly scribbled something on the paper because they were trying to do what was asked of them but their heart wasn't in it. Some students, and those of us who teach know the kids I'm talking about, thought carefully about every question, wanting to provide feedback but not wanting to hurt the teacher's feelings or make her mad. Kids were asked to respond to a variety of questions but I compiled these common themes related to the question "What advice would you give to next year's 8th graders coming into this class?" I've highlighted some of my favorites.
