Well, I made that donation that I showed you yesterday. I headed down to the thrift store that benefits Domestic Violence Services of Snohomish County and dropped it off. On my way home, I passed a sign that indicated the Glacier View neighborhood was having a yard sale. Many of the homes I passed had interesting stuff out on view so I decided to stop.
At my first stop, I picked up this really long rolling pin. It belonged to the owner's italian grandmother and he can remember watching her use it. He hadn't really decided if he wanted to sell it but his wife encouraged him. When I asked him how much he wanted he said "How about $5.00?" Needless to say, I snatched it up. I went online and found italian-made beechwood pasta rolling pins (smaller than this) for over $40.00! He asked me if I had a map and then kindly handed me a map the indicated all the homes participating and what they had for sale. These people were ORGANIZED!

At my next stop people were selling things for whatever you wanted to donate (within reason) unless it had a marked price. The money was going to send kids to camp. I got this great little vintage ice bucket made in italy for $1.00. I found the same one online going for everything from $5.99 to $25.00 and mine is in better shape that the one for sale below.

Then I picked up these little green china dishes for $.50 each. Not old but very useful for jewelry in the bedroom or appetizers in the kitchen.
These earrings only cost me $5.00 and they were made by the woman having the sale. I toyed with the idea of saving them for a Christmas gift for my sister but decided to keep them for myself (sorry Lee).
Finally, a family selling off items from their relatives home had an eclectic mixture of things. I found these great glass bottles in the basement. When the man asked me what I was going to use them for, I told him I might make up a batch of moonshine. He decided to give them to me for half price because he thought I was too young to know what moonshine was. Should I be flattered that an 80-something man was flirting with me?
Total outlay for the day was only $14.00!
