The current "art" installment at my favorite espresso bar focuses on hand smocked clothing from the Northwest Smocking Arts Guild. When I was very young, my grandmother Dodie and my mum both created hand smocked clothing for me (and my sister Lee) so this was like a trip down memory lane. I used to watch with fascination as they completed the intricate stiches. Why didn't I take the time to learn?
A number of these pieces had creative touches that picked up the colors and elements of the fabric.

Incredible! What a cool exhibit. And love the photos of you and Lee :)
ReplyDeleteWhoa...I had no idea what went into smocking! Very cool contrast with your pictures from days of yore and the exhibit photos.
