Well, my flight left on time and arrived on time but the best news was the text I received from my sister telling me that my baggage was there! Made it to the car rental agency with 20 minutes left. We hit the road and stopped at the Bittersweet Bistro in Aptos for some lunch. It felt so good to sit out in the sun.

We finally arrived at our cottage in Carmel in the late afternoon. The Carmel River Inn is a funky collection of cottages from the 30's and a motel from the 60's.

We had dinner that night at a restaurant close by called Rio Grill. It was noisy but the food was delicious and the rooms were filled with interesting artwork like the huge ear of corn made out of glass pictured below. Our waiter, Alex was very helpful. He lit a little birthday candle and inserted it into our complimentary warm bread pudding with whiskey anglaise. He also recommended some local wineries out in the Carmel Valley that we might want to visit before heading out of town.
