Day 108 - Chili Cookoff

A couple of the guys at work decided we should have a chili cookoff the last day of school.  They solicited cooks over email and I threw my name into the ring.  Per usual, I chose to make a recipe that was totally new to me.  I came across it in the Parade magazine section of the Sunday paper several weeks ago.  The ingredients looked interesting and it was a recipe of Zac Brown's of the Zac Brown Band.  Apparently, it was a hit because I only had about a cup to bring home at the end of the day. Try it yourself (if you can read this) and see what you think.  I reduced the chili powder by about 2-3 tablespoons and it was still plenty hot.

  1. Sounds good! Here's my turkey chili recipe. Super simple!

1+ lbs browned ground turkey. I like to add taco seasoning and a splash or two of buffalo wing sauce
    1 can large butter beans
    1 can chili beans
    1 can red kidney beans
    1 can rotel
    1 can tomato sauce
    1 can tomatoe puree
    1-2 tblsp. cumin
    1-2 tesp.cayenne pepper
    1-2 teasp. chili pepper

I drain all the beans, combine everything and toss it in the crock pot on low all day. DELISH!!! Sourdough breadbowl (Safeway's are actually amazing!), cheese and ta-da! Dinner with very little work!

Cookin' some as I type. Great for "chili" nights like tonight. Ha! :)
